The two parties will thus work together to exchange knowledge on industry trends, design end-to-end cybersecurity platforms and solutions, and add value to the country's existing cybersecurity projects. By leveraging resources from both inside and outside the UAE, the parties will ultimately be able to assist public and private-sector organizations in ensuring compliance with stringent cybersecurity standards while accelerating their cyber maturity.Khaled Al Melhi, CEO of CPX, said: "The GCC region, particularly the UAE, has become a hub for digital innovation. In alignment with our mission to empower organizations with cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions and services, our collaboration with Huawei aims to support government and private sectors to maintain their competitive edge and thrive in an increasingly digital economy."Jerry Liu, CEO of Huawei UAE noted: "Huawei believes cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, and collaboration between ICT industry stakeholders to build unified and transparent security standards is key to safer cyberspace. Therefore, we value partnerships like this with CPX, which support the government's efforts to position the UAE as a trusted digital oasis." The MoU comes as governments and businesses in the UAE rapidly adopt new technologies while also being exposed to new and more sophisticated cyber threats. E-commerce consolidates pandemic gains, enters high-growth stage in MENA

E-commerce in the MENA region has settled into a stable, high-growth era, with increased opportunities for e-commerce players. Data from leading global payment solutions provider Checkout.com’s report: Digital Transformation in MENA 2022, proves that the e-commerce trends accelerated by the pandemic are here to stay. The report surveyed over 15,500 shoppers across the Middle East and North Africa.Ecommerce penetration continues to mature and deepenIn the past 3 years ecommerce has grown faster in the MENA region than anywhere else in the world, with an estimated 209 million consumers transitioning to online shopping during the height of the pandemic. Now, with the pandemic’s lockdowns now behind us, the number of ecommerce shoppers in MENA only continues to grow. According to the report, 91% of respondents said they regularly shop online, up from 87% in 2021. Further, more than half (52%) of MENA residents said they shopped more frequently this year, up from 47% in 2021. On a more local level, looking at the GCC, we see that 9% of consumers are spending money online at least once per day, which is a 50% increase in the past 12 months. These positive trends are set to continue, with 88% of respondents across MENA saying they will increase their online purchases over the next year.In parallel, as the regional economy thrives, and the pandemic recedes, we see an increase in consumers spending money online within categories such as travel and tourism, events and entertainment, however, with a total of 45% prepared food remains the number one category customers spend their money online on.Digital Payments SurgeConsumer appetite for digital payments continues to rise, maintaining 2021 trends. The report shows that 70% of consumers across MENA prefer to use a digital payment method - up from 60% in 2021 and 40% in 2020, representing a 75% increase in 24 months. The figure is even higher in the GCC region, which has a much higher digital penetration, with 80% of GCC consumers now favoring digital payment methods. These results mirror the sharp rise in payment apps and digital wallets in the region, where 82% of consumers in MENA report using some form of fintech app in 2022, up from 76% in 2021. In fact, across the entire region we see a continued uptick in the adoption of digital wallets as the go-to payment method with a 6 percentage point increase in 24 months. In particular countries such as Egypt, Qatar and Saudi have seen a near doubling in the popularity of digital wallets. Conversely, the use of Cash on Delivery (CoD) has declined precipitously in MENA, with a nearly 40% drop in the past 24 months.Sophisticated Consumer BaseThe increased sophistication of the regional e-commerce landscape is seen in the continued appeal of Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) options and sCommerce (social commerce). Nearly half of consumers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia used BNPL this year. Across MENA, 39% of consumers have used a BNPL option in 2022, up from 24% of consumers in 2021, representing 64% YoY growth. A further 28% of consumers who have not used BNPL hope to use it in the next 12 months, meaning as many as 67% of consumers in MENA may use the method in 2023. Perhaps even more strikingly, is to see that the penetration of BNPL is higher in MENA compared with the US and Europe. With the ever-increasing average time people spend on social media per day, it is not surprising that a fifth of consumers in MENA say they now frequently shop via social media channels (sCommerce), representing a 43% growth in the past 24 months. Meanwhile, the appetite for social commerce has more than double in KSA and the UAE.Remo Giovanni Abbondandolo, Vice President for MENA at Checkout.com, said: "The report validates our conclusions from last year – that the region's eCommerce and digital payment ecosystem is growing rapidly. The combination of a digitally savvy population and a mature retail sector will ensure these gains are sustained in the long run. Additionally, the growing trust in online payments by regional shoppers means the digital transformation of the region's retail sector is well underway. This is underlined by the emergence of Web3 as a key component of the online experience, with shoppers showing a significant appetite for transacting on-chain, and a desire both to be paid and to pay in digital currencies."As seen in the report, fintech and digital payments adoption continues to soar across the region. Merchants are racing to keep up and as they do so, they continue to innovate and diversify the consumer offering. Consumers, of course, are quick to respond and the competitive landscape sharpens as the benchmark for consumer expectations continues to climb. The Cloud instance will provide in-country data residency and enable local enterprises to maintain proximity to their data. Zeeshan Hadi, country manager, UAE at Aruba provides insight on the launch saying, “We have witnessed an acceleration in the demand for cloud services in the UAE, as organizations seek to modernize and transform their IT infrastructures and architectures in order to support a hybrid workforce. According to a report by Ken Research, the UAE Cloud services market is set to grow at a CAGR of 16.9% in terms of revenue generation, over the period 2021-2026. However, one of the key barriers to cloud adoption has been around data residency, and concerns over data that is stored in a cloud hosted outside the borders of a country, especially when it relates to customers operating in regulated industries like government, healthcare and financial services. The launch of our UAE Cloud instance is a momentous achievement and will go a long way in allaying these concerns. This signals another landmark in our ongoing pursuit to better serve our customers and partners in the UAE.”The launch comes on the back of the UAE government’s Federal Personal Data Protection (PDP) Law introduced early this year that places new regulations around the processing of personal data for individuals in the UAE. Besides the issue of data privacy, having cloud services hosted close to UAE customers translates to better and faster network and application performance, ultra-low latency, and thereby the best user experience. The company’s flagship Aruba Central platform that provides AI-powered, cloud-managed networking for branch, campus, remote, and data center networks will be hosted on the local Cloud instance. As the management and orchestration console for Aruba ESP (Edge Services Platform), Aruba Central provides a single point of control to oversee every aspect of wired and wireless LANs, WANs, and VPNs across campus, branch, remote, and data center locations. AI-powered analytics, end-to-end orchestration and automation, and advanced security features are built natively into the solution. Live upgrades, robust reporting, and live chat support are also included, bringing more efficiency to day-to-day maintenance activities. Built on a cloud-native, microservices architecture, Aruba Central delivers on enterprise requirements for scale and resiliency, and is also driven by intuitive workflows and dashboards that make it a perfect fit for SMBs with limited IT personnel. The solution is also integrated with HPE GreenLake, providing a consistent operating model and single platform for IT executives to view and manage their compute, storage, and networking infrastructure for unmatched efficiency and improved cost controls. Recently the company has added Client Insights to the Aruba Central Foundation License, providing customers with a service for detecting and provisioning devices at no additional cost. The platform has also been bolstered with four new AI features that tap into Aruba’s massive data lake to give more actionable networking and security information to partners and IT administrators. “We are excited about today’s announcement, enabling our customers to consume Aruba Central in region, and providing an easier way to extend their network from edge-to-cloud – all enabled by a seamless, unified wired, wireless, and SD-Branch infrastructure. Leveraging Cloud technologies enables us to deliver solutions that use Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at scale, resulting in what we call Aruba Self-healing AIOps. The benefit for customers is that problems are automatically surfaced and fixed before end users or business performance are impacted, without requiring any manual effort on behalf of IT operators,” concludes Lars Koelendorf, Vice President, Solutions & Enablement, EMEA at Aruba.

Decisions on transformation can no longer be delayed

In a business landscape that is growing more volatile and more virtual, it is becoming crucial to transform businesses, the people behind it and its assets. It’s necessary to revive the human element in any business model. Humanizing Business, from Z to A is essential in a changing world like ours.Businesswomen, Hanane Benkhallouk (HB) and Zeina Akkawi (AZ) are set to take on a new approach to shifting the narrative from B2B, B2C or B2G to H2H. From strategy to PR, this collaboration will offer compelling solutions that help business leader assess and reinvent their business models and communication strategies, to achieve its outcomes while aligning with the systemic shift that the business world is witnessing.“Businesses and brands, just like humans, have values. Today, consumers, employees and decision makers want brands that align with their values, products and services are de-commoditized, it is all about designing and selling experiences. To achieve this transformation, it must start from leadership, that can not only communicate the vision, but role model it, that moves from control to empowerment and is ready to flatten the structure and build a value driven culture, not a process driven structure” said Hanane Benkhallouk, a transformation strategist, Founder of Tawazoun and Sustain Leadership. Author of Amazon bestselling SEEDS of change.Humanizing PR is another game changer! It’s important to understand how to communicate any company assets (from brands to structures) in a more personable, more relatable manner, that tells authentic stories rather than business jargon.“With conscious consumers and a transformed marketing industry, the way the public perceives PR – be it from Publishing Houses or Companies - has completely changed. With the takeover of social media that have created a new kind of celebrities, known as “influencers”, it is our responsibility to reassess how to design authentically Humanized PR campaigns that align with the brand’s mission and carries the voice of customer in an outside approach. This varies from portraying and branding leader’s to training and managing expectations” added Zeina Akkawi, a seasoned Marketing and Communication professional with over 22 years of experience, works with regional and international Governments; Founder or PAZ Marketing Management. The two entrepreneur women have been recently part of a campaign (everywoman diamond) by a regional fine jewelry brand, that chose to make an entry to the UAE market, showcasing the shine of their diamonds and gems through the sparkle emanating from successful progressive “real” women in the UAE.

DAFZ records 36% year-on-year increase in non-oil trade in 2021

Non-oil trade of Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZ), part of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), rose by more than 36 percent year-on-year in 2021, reinforcing Dubai’s strength as a global hub for trade and commerce. Figures shared by the DAFZ in cooperation with Dubai Customs showed that the free zone’s non-oil trade exceeded AED162 billion last year compared with AED119 billion the year before.H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of DIEZ, said, “We are proud of these exceptional results that highlight the strategic contribution of DAFZ under the umbrella of DIEZ. These results have been pivotal in promoting economic recovery in Dubai and the UAE. The free zone has fully recovered from the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, with trade returning to pre-2020 levels. This has reinforced its mission to enhance its strategic goals and contribute to strengthening Dubai’s position as a global trade hub.”“These unprecedented results align with the national economic performance, which recorded qualitative leaps recently following the strong growth of Dubai’s non-oil trade. This has become a new base for further progress this year and in the future. Dubai has adopted various initiatives and undertaken development programmes in its commercial sectors, including a digital services system, developing its logistics infrastructure, and attracting national and international competencies. These initiatives have successfully implemented operational systems that meet the highest speed, efficiency, and competitiveness,” Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed added. The exceptional financial results stem from DAFZ’s strategic initiatives and incentives to support and facilitate its community of multinational and small-to-medium businesses, enabling an investment environment and ensuring seamless trade activity.DAFZ contributed 10.7 percent to Dubai’s non-oil trade in 2021, exceeding expectations across all sectors. The free zone also recorded a trade surplus of AED9.3 billion. This growth was fuelled by the massive 48 percent year-on-year increase in imports, exceeding even the record levels achieved in 2019 and resulting in a quadrupling of exports, reaching AED1.4 billion in 2021.Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, said, “These exceptional results highlight the success and effectiveness of the strategic plans developed by Dubai to enhance the growth of the non-oil trade sector and develop its operations by following a new and comprehensive organisational structure. This has resulted in establishing the integrated business environment of DIEZ, which heralds a new stage of excellence and growth across all levels, in addition to offering flexibility in adapting to regional and global conditions and turning challenges into real opportunities for all parties.”“During the pandemic, Dubai focused on developing accurate plans and continued to strengthen its partnerships and operations, a step that facilitated these exceptional results. This year serves as a new roadmap toward achieving the strategic goals of the Emirate’s non-oil trade sector and becoming a global hub for international trade. This is evident by the overall growth of imports to the Emirate and the enabling partnerships and attraction of new global companies that have chosen Dubai as the base for their global operations,” Al Zarooni added. These results reflect DAFZ’s prominent role in realising the strategic vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to promote the national economy and the investment environment of Dubai. In 2021, DAFZ achieved exceptional growth that contributed to surpluses in various sectors, particularly in the ‘machinery, equipment, and appliances’ and ‘precious stones, metals and jewellery’ sectors. These two sectors achieved growth between 36 percent and 46 percent and made up an average of 94 percent of DAFZ’s overall trade.Machinery, equipment, and appliances were the main contributor to DAFZ’s trade in 2021, making up 74.6 percent of exports with a value of AED63.9 billion, and 77.1 percent of imports with a value of AED58.9 billion. Precious stones, metals, and jewellery made up 19.3 percent of exports with a value of AED16.5 billion, and 16.7 percent of imports with a value of AED12.7 billion. In terms of DAFZ’s trading partners, Asia accounted for 43 percent of DAFZ’s total trade with a value of AED69.5 billion, followed by the Middle East and North Africa with 37 percent and a value of AED60.7 billion, and Europe with 13 percent and a value of AED21.6 billion.DAFZ launched a series of economic stimulus packages to support international companies and SMEs during the pandemic to overcome the economic challenges that affected most business sectors. This was in line with Dubai’s strategic vision to offer companies and businesses effective packages and incentives to provide flexibility in their operations and help them tackle the challenges posed by the pandemic.

Data and dialogue key drivers of philanthropic impact across MENA

To meet the growing demand for more cohesive philanthropic communities in the MENA region, Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research in collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Network of Foundations Working for Development (netFWD) and the Pearl Initiative, convened experts for a series of panel discussions at a joint event titled "Private Philanthropy for Development in the MENA". The discussions focused on building effective philanthropic communities across the region, drawing opinion from philanthropists and experts from the non-profit sector to promote improved data and dialogue. The opening session titled 'Building philanthropic communities in the MENA region' featured H.E. Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, Founder of Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation, Badr Jafar, CEO of Crescent Enterprises and Founder of Pearl Initiative, and Hana Shahin, Executive Director of King Hussein Foundation. The discussion highlighted the importance of collaboration through sharing experiences and co-financing initiatives based on mutual objectives and the growing demand for transparency, accountability, and measurability in philanthropic giving across the region. In an engaging discussion on the need for philanthropic impact to be supported by data, Badr Jafar said, "It is estimated that more than $5 trillion of wealth in the top 30 growing economies which are all in growth markets like the Middle East will be passed from one generation to the next within the next decade. There will inevitably be a significant increase in philanthropic activities in these societies, which underlines the need for enhanced mechanisms and means to give to boost impact.” Acknowledging the philanthropic behavioural shifts in the Middle East, with next-gen donors demanding more transparency and wanting to feel more connected to their giving, Badr Jafar was optimistic that this natural trend would continue to increase throughout the region. He commented, "There is no shortage of new philanthropists eager to make a social impact with their capital in the region. By working together as individual philanthropists, corporate and institutional donors, we can remain focused on the strategic deployment of philanthropic capital to deliver lasting results for all. “Alongside the panel discussions, a roundtable explored the strategies adopted by various foundations to provide stakeholders with additional knowledge banks and resources to draw upon. Learning included examining the efforts of some philanthropists in the region in order to benefit from the coordination of data and dialogue to achieve more impactful philanthropy.Badr Jafar called on all stakeholders to undertake transparent, innovative, and impactful philanthropic initiatives to benefit the region, emphasising, "We have a long history of charitable giving in the MENA region and the broader Islamic world. Today, anywhere between $400 billion to $1 trillion is disbursed annually between Zakat and Sadaqa, which is triple the global annual humanitarian and development aid budgets. With all the challenges being faced, we really need to to ensure we maximise our giving impact by effectively building a closer community of philanthropic donors to share knowledge, experience and purpose."The two-day event in Ras Al Khaimah is a collaboration between, Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research, OECD netFWD and the Pearl Initiative, to support worldwide demand for more and improved data and analysis on global philanthropy for development. Through in-depth research and state-of-the-art analysis, the initiative will support the UAE's 2030 Agenda and help philanthropists achieve a positive impact despite worldwide challenges.

Paris not to show Qatar World Cup games on TV

World Cup matches on big screens in public fan zones will not be broadcast in Paris amid concerns over the violation of rights of the migrant workers, and the impact on environment of the tournament in Qatar.According to Pierre Rabadan, deputy mayor of Paris in charge of sports, due to the conditions of the organisation of this World Cup, both on the societal and environmental level, the decision against the public broadcasting of matches is taken. In an interview with France Blue Paris, he mentioned that what is to be questioned is air-conditioned stadiums and the conditions under which these facilities have been built. Rabadan puts an emphasis on the fact that the soccer tournament is not boycotted by Paris, thereby explaining that the model of Qatar of staging big events is against what the host of Olympics, 2024 wants to organize. The move is a contradiction to the fact that Paris Saint-German, the city’s football club being owned by Qatar Sports Investments. Rabadan said: “Though we have very constructive relations with the club and its entourage, however it does not prevent us when we disagree.” A large number of French cities are rejecting to build screens broadcasting World Cup matches in order to stage a protest against Qatar’s human rights record.Jeanne Barseghian mentioned in a statement: “It is not possible by us to neglect the warnings of exploitation and abuse of the migrant workers by non-governmental organizations, we cannot disregard these abuses and turn a blind eye when there is a violation of human rights and an impact on the environment.” She said: “Organising a soccer tournament in the desert disobeys common sense, amounting to an ecological disaster.”

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Hollywood actor, Nitu Chandra Srivastava launches her film production house, Champaran Talkies Studios FZ LLC in Abu Dhabi. The initiative is a tribute not only to Gandhiji who began his Satyagraha, a non-violent form of resistance, in Champaran but also to Nitu’s native Indian roots that have played a major role in establishing herself as a successful actor and producer.   Having come from a middle-class family with no film background, Nitu fought her way through different Indian film industries to make her mark as an actor. Champaran Talkies was Nitu’s way of giving back to the film industry and the people of India whom she had won over with her acting. Nitu launched Champaran Talkies in Mumbai, India, in 2010 along with her brother Mr. Nitin Chandra, a National Awarded Writer and Director, with a vision to bring quality cinema to the Indian audience. Together, they wanted to change the negative image of movies that came from Bihar, Nitu’s hometown. This vision became a reality when Champaran Talkies became the first production house to get the one and only National Award in the language of Maithili in India. Since then, Champaran Talkies has produced several documentaries and fiction movies.Champaran Talkies Studios FZ LLC in Abu Dhabi is an extension of the production house in Mumbai. The sole aim of the studio in Abu Dhabi is to produce international movies that appeal to a global audience. To achieve this, Nitu plans to set up an all-women team of above-the-line talented technicians who can be instrumental in producing quality content and pave the way for women in a male-dominated industry.“Empowering women and recognizing their value is the best thing we can do to uplift society. With this all-women team at Champaran Talkies Studios, I aim to provide better access for women in the field of movie making and production. I believe that I can find the right talent from different ethnicities for my projects owing to UAE’s international integration and presence of 200+ nationalities in one space. I am grateful to the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, Mr. Abhitanshu Khare, my attorney from London, as well as Mr. Abdulhamid Al Balooshi from A. Albalooshi Advocates and Legal Consultants, who have been instrumental in establishing my studios here in UAE,” says Nitu Chandra Srivastava, Director, Champaran Talkies Studios FZ LLC.Speaking of this association, Mr. Hans Fraikin, Abu Dhabi Film & TV Commissioner says, “We are delighted to welcome Hollywood Actor and award-winning producer Nitu Chandra Srivastava to Abu Dhabi, UAE. Our value proposition has been resonating very strongly, as evidenced by the strong uptake of our technology by regional enterprises.”“Appointing Abulhouf to lead our Emerging Markets organization is a very natural evolution for him and for Nutanix teams in the region. His track record is significant in terms of business development as well as people development. His leadership philosophy fits perfectly with our vision that we should focus our energy on solving problems for our customers in a multicloud world, not on selling products. Last but not least, his ability to build and develop key partnerships and bring strong solutions to market is key,” he continues.“I am truly honoured to lead Nutanix’s regional team in the Emerging Markets, at an exciting time when most enterprises have digital transformation initiatives underway. According to the 2022 Enterprise Cloud Index (ECI) report, multicloud is currently the most commonly used deployment model and the report predicts that adoption will jump to 64% in the next three years. However, complexity issues of interoperability, security, cost and data integration remains a major challenge for enterprises. That’s where Nutanix’s value proposition lies. Our platform blurs the line between public, private, and edge clouds to deliver one, invisible multi-cloud experience. From application automation and mobility to cloud governance and native disaster recovery, we give enterprises the foundational IT environment to thrive in a multi-cloud world. I’m looking forward to progressing the great work that’s already happening and excited to advance Nutanix’s business across the region,” concludes Mohammad Abulhouf.

Eternal Robotics launches Smart Eyes, an AI surveillance and inspection service

Eternal Robotics, a tech company focused on automation through innovation, has released a new AI-driven solution designed to streamline multiple business operations, including quality inspection, surveillance and action recognition systems. The pioneering company is part of the UAE-based Mojay Global Holding, which seeks out disruptive technology for investment and growth opportunities.Aptly named Smart Eyes, Eternal Robotics’ SaaS solution can monitor employee uniform and grooming compliance, a critical operational function in specialised industries, such as airlines, luxury mobility, hospitality, construction and the manufacturing industry. It offers companies a transparent, digitised and automated alternative to human inspection services, which can be inconsistent and costly. With uniform inspections, Smart Eyes detects any deviation, no matter how minor, such as an incorrectly knotted tie, lack of safety standards and protective equipment, unauthorised use of mobiles, and more depending on the scenario. Compatible with existing camera surveillance systems, the application utilises AI to identify, track and monitor employees and workers across different industries like mobility, hospitality, retail, facility management, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, life sciences and automotive services. Smart Eyes monitors multiple criteria such as people, uniforms, grooming, operational efficiency, product standards, and action recognition, which are three of the system’s main functions. In addition, the system is easy to implement, requiring only two to four weeks to become fully functional. Customers can choose and customise the solution for the most critical aspects of the business to be monitored and reported on through comprehensive insightful dashboards.Luxury chauffeur service PREIMO Urban Mobility recently adopted Smart Eyes to inspect the drivers’ uniforms. The application’s AI identified instances where uniforms did not meet company regulations and helped management streamline surveillance, attendance and conformity of the drivers. PREIMO also gained valuable automated insights into its operations and real-time updates regarding employee compliance (which were not subjective as it can be when outsourced). Overall, the company reported a 70% decrease in quality inspection costs, saving a significant amount in operational expenses. The company also experienced increased compliance of staff with the standards, which brought notable improvement in consistency and customer satisfaction.Raul Silva, CEO of Mojay Global Holdings commented on the efficiency of Smart Eyes, saying, “Mojay is a pioneering company that is disrupting the industry with new AI-driven solutions.
