Dubizzle Group, the Middle East technology unicorn and #1 regional classifieds platform, says that there has been a significant uptick in the listing and sales of electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid cars in the UAE. Proprietary market data compiled by the Group’s classifieds platform dubizzle.com shows a sustained increase in the inventory of second-hand low emission vehicles, signalling a clear shift in consumer preferences towards more sustainable transport options, as well as a maturing of the electric and hybrid vehicle category in the UAE.During the first nine months of 2023, dubizzle’s automotive classifieds data shows a 28% increase in EV listings, compared to the first nine months of 2022. Over the same period, hybrid car listings surged by 142%, further underlining the growing popularity of low emission vehicles. By contrast, non-EV car listings went up by just 9% over the same period.Within the EV category, listings for the Tesla Model 3 increased by 9.2% in the first nine months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. Tesla appears to be the preferred brand among buyers, with the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.6 close behind. Listings for the Volkswagen ID.6 increased by 97% during the same period but declined by 73% from a peak in Q4 2023, likely due to measures taken by the UAE in March of this year to regulate the import of EVs through non-approved dealerships and traders.The strong growth in demand for low emission vehicles, according to Dubizzle Group, can be directly correlated to rises in fuel prices, with spikes in demand for low-emission vehicles closely linked to spikes in fuel costs. Moreover, accessibility of EV ownership in the UAE has improved, with prices for low-emission vehicles decreasing since early 2022, making them more affordable for drivers. Used EV prices have also decreased since the mid-2022 supply shortage has corrected.Dubizzle Group believes that the widely available EV charging infrastructure in the UAE has supported stronger demand. New report warns VPN users against privacy pitfalls

Internet users increasingly rely upon virtual private networks to ensure their online privacy, but VPN providers have a dubious track record of breaking promises to safeguard their customers’ privacy, engaging in shady efforts to woo potential customers, and associating with entities in the dark underbelly of the Internet that target users for harm, according to an investigation conducted by the Digital Citizens Alliance and White Bullet.The six-month investigation found:While relying on online reviews is the most common way people choose VPN service, some review sites aren’t the independent and neutral arbiters they pretend to be. For example, Kape Technologies, the owner of ExpressVPN, acquired VPN review sites in 2021, raising the question whether Internet users can now trust that those reviews are truly independent.While VPNs tout privacy, some associate themselves with illegal content theft websites – a nefarious $2.3 billion dollar industry that has been demonstrated to intentionally expose their users to malware designed to violate their privacy. The investigation found that VPN providers spend an estimated $45 million a year advertising on piracy sites.Users may not realize that their VPN provider logs their online activities. Free VPNs may make money by selling that data to third parties. VPNs claim to not retain user data. However, in 2020, seven VPNs left user data – which they claimed they were not collecting – for roughly 20 million people unprotected on a cloud server. The Center for Democracy and Technology – a well-respected tech think tank - has raised concerns that the claims made by VPNs that they protect user data have proven too often to be false.“By engaging in questionable activities, VPN providers undermine the trust critical to the future of the Internet and support illicit actors who are notorious for targeting Internet users to spread malware and engage in credit card fraud,” said Tom Galvin, Executive Director of the Digital Citizens Alliance. “What does this mean for Internet users? Choose carefully when deciding on a VPN provider.”“Piracy sites provide real audiences attracted to rich media content: this means advertisers are hugely exposed when programmatic algorithms and negligent affiliates choose these eyeball-rich environments for ad placement, without using proper filtering solutions,” said Peter Szyszko, CEO of White Bullet Solutions Limited. “Brands that use these advertising and marketing mechanisms are particularly at risk. Programmatic systems are only as good as the "exclusion lists" that control them, and if these are not dynamic or real-time, then lists quickly become out of date. Affiliate partners seek to maximize commission from brands for clicks made on their ads, so unless they are closely monitored and audited by brands, greed may get the better of them.”In places such as the United States VPNs have access to that data without any direct regulatory oversight - although most Americans don’t realize that. A Digital Citizens research survey conducted in October found that a majority of Americans believe that VPNs are regulated by either the federal or state governments.Concerns about how VPNs operate are compounded by a general lack of understanding about them. The research survey of 1,318 Internet users found that 54 percent of Americans weren’t sure whether they even used a VPN. Only 1 in 5 reported having a strong understanding of a VPN’s purpose.

Meta takes on the responsibility of managing and overseeing the technology in collaboration with the Tech Coalition, ensuring simplicity of use and equipping partners with the information they need to identify potential predators on their platforms.One notable example of Lantern's effectiveness is an investigation conducted by Meta following information supplied by Lantern partner MEGA during the programme's pilot phase. MEGA shared URLs with Lantern that had been previously removed due to child safety violations. Meta's specialized child safety team harnessed this information to initiate a broader investigation into potentially violating behaviors related to these URLs on its platforms. The investigation led to the removal of over 10,000 violating Facebook profiles, pages, and Instagram accounts. In compliance with legal obligations, the violating profiles, pages, and accounts were reported to NCMEC. Furthermore, details of the investigation were shared with Lantern, enabling participating companies to leverage the signals for their own investigations.

How have you managed and successfully played all these roles in your career?I’ve always taken everything one step at a time, be it in terms of my learnings and education, my career path or my volunteering. If you do good work, the accolades will follow.As a communications leader for the first Saudi Arabian vehicle brand, what can you tell us about your experience working with a new industry?Communication is always exhilarating, regardless of the industry. What's truly thrilling is being part of the initial stages of a once-in-a-lifetime transformation of society. There's a multitude of tasks at hand, including engaging with diverse audiences to generate enthusiasm for electric vehicles, demonstrating how smart mobility can enhance transportation safety, and discussing the pivotal role of technology in concepts like autonomous driving. Sustainability and eco-friendly transportation are also essential aspects to consider. Given the wealth of activities in this realm, we must carefully tailor our messages for various groups.How have you witnessed the evolution of the Public Relations industry over the years, and what positive changes have you observed?I’ve worked in the profession in the region for two decades, and it’s been great to see the maturing of the sector. When I started here, the focus was primarily on media relations. Now, there’s much more thought about a wider variety of stakeholders, including employees, community relations, government affairs and the like. We are also tackling bigger issues, such as sustainability and purpose. We still have much more to do to ensure that communications has a seat at the leadership table in every organisation, but we are getting there.Could you share some recent marketing and communications strategies that you have implemented? What changes can we anticipate in the vehicle industry as a result?With the rise of electric vehicles, we are witnessing the biggest change we have seen in the automotive sector for decades. What we have to do is get consumers excited about these changes, and make them want to be part of this change. There are challenges, such as the higher initial cost of EVs, a lack of charging infrastructure, the lost cost of petrol in the Gulf and the need for incentives and subsidies. I’m a convert, and I love my EV. I want others to feel the same, and that’s why communications is essential to making a convincing case for people to shift to EVs.What is your vision for the future of the vehicle industry in the Middle East?I want to see safer, smarter, more sustainable mobility across the Gulf. I think we can lead the transition to an electric future. Dubizzle Group sees accelerating momentum for electric and hybrid vehicles

Dubai, UAE: Dubizzle Group, the Middle East technology unicorn and #1 regional classifieds platform, says that there has been a significant uptick in the listing and sales of electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid cars in the UAE. Proprietary market data compiled by the Group’s classifieds platform dubizzle.com shows a sustained increase in the inventory of second-hand low emission vehicles, signalling a clear shift in consumer preferences towards more sustainable transport options, as well as a maturing of the electric and hybrid vehicle category in the UAE.During the first nine months of 2023, dubizzle’s automotive classifieds data shows a 28% increase in EV listings, compared to the first nine months of 2022. Over the same period, hybrid car listings surged by 142%, further underlining the growing popularity of low emission vehicles. By contrast, non-EV car listings went up by just 9% over the same period.Within the EV category, listings for the Tesla Model 3 increased by 9.2% in the first nine months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. Tesla appears to be the preferred brand among buyers, with the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.6 close behind. Listings for the Volkswagen ID.6 increased by 97% during the same period but declined by 73% from a peak in Q4 2023, likely due to measures taken by the UAE in March of this year to regulate the import of EVs through non-approved dealerships and traders.The strong growth in demand for low emission vehicles, according to Dubizzle Group, can be directly correlated to rises in fuel prices, with spikes in demand for low-emission vehicles closely linked to spikes in fuel costs. Moreover, accessibility of EV ownership in the UAE has improved, with prices for low-emission vehicles decreasing since early 2022, making them more affordable for drivers. Used EV prices have also decreased since the mid-2022 supply shortage has corrected.Dubizzle Group believes that the widely available EV charging infrastructure in the UAE has supported stronger demand. Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) will host the 2023 Spartan World Championship in Al Wathba desert, 30 minutes outside of Abu Dhabi City, from 8-10 December 2023, which will see the introduction of two additional competitive events to the annual tournament. For its third consecutive year held in the emirate, the championship will feature an all-new 3km obstacle course, as well as and a first-of-its-kind night race among its roster of competitions, which is anticipated to attract athletes from around the world in their bid to become a Spartan World Champion.Taking place on 8 December, the Spartan Night Sprint will officially inaugurate the 2023 Spartan World Championship weekend and will feature a fully illuminated 5km Spartan Sprint desert course. Comprising two heats, commencing at 5.30pm and 5.45pm respectively, registration for the race is open to anyone wishing to compete, with participants required to wear headlamps. Following the night race, live music performances, the official Parade of Nations, and an athlete panel discussion will feature on the event’s main stage.The 3km obstacle event to be held on 9-10 December 2023, will feature three race variants, the Elite 3K, the Elite 3K Team Relay, and the Open 3K Team Relay, competing across male and female categories.
